DJ Pause (Fresh Vetz) Presents: The Guru Tape! (Mixtape)

Straight from the Fresh Vetz camp:

Make sure you check out The Guru Tape, mixed and arranged by up-and-coming producer DJ Pause of the hip hop duo FRESH VETZ.  As many of you know, we lost GURU last month and the hip hop community still devastated by that.  This tape pays homage the late great MC in a major way, featuring classics such as DWYCK, Code Of The Streetz, You Know My Steez, and many other memorable joints the group was know for.  “We never want people to forget what ‘Gang Starr’ did for hip hop as a group, what Guru did as an MC, and what Premier did as a DJ and a producer” says DJ Pause.  Please support the cause and download the tape free!  Spread the word.

Dashah (Fresh Vetz) – Skillz (R.I.P. Guru) (Mp3)

Dashah hit me up a few times and I was skeptic of him but seeing that he got a lot of buzz from major outlets, I took a listen to his songs and was impressed.  Last night, he hit me up with this tribute to Guru.  Check it out.

Here’s the MC’s own words:

In no way is this intended to make light of someone’s death but only with the intent to show respect and pay homage to one of my favorite MC’s and one of hip hops greatest groups of all time. -Dashah

R.I.P. GURU!!!!!

Guru's Family Issues Press Release

PRESS RELEASE

The Elam family wishes to thank the fans of our son/brother/father uncle/nephew/cousin Keith aka GURU for the outpouring of love, concern and support.

Our hearts are broken by the loss of someone we loved so much. GURU was devoted to his young son, who will most keenly feel his absence.

GURU suffered from multiple myeloma for over a year. Accrued complications from this illness led to respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. As a result, GURU was in a coma from mid February until his death and never regained consciousness. Early on the morning of April 19th, he became hypertensive due to low blood pressure. He again went into cardiac arrest and slipped away from us.

GURU died far too young but he was, and we are, proud of all his many legendary musical contributions.

The family is not aware of any foundations established by GURU. We know and understand that countless fans want to express their condolences and love and, to that end, we are planning a memorial event in the near future that will be all-inclusive. Please look for further details from the family as they become available.

FEATURE: Supreme Knowledge Reigns (Tribute to Guru)

Since last night, we mourn the loss of another hip hop legend.  Keith Elam a.k.a. Guru who was best known from Gang Starr, passed away from colon cancer.  I’m sure we all read about the drama that was unfolding last month with his heart attack and DJ Solar not letting his family visit Guru.  But all that is irrelevant now because a great musician is gone.  I’ve been contemplating all morning of how the genre will let his legacy live on.  Will Hot 97 finally play more Gang Starr?  Will they play more of his solo work?  Personally, I don’t really care about how the commercial scene commemorates his music.  But what’s important to me, is that true hip hop heads appreciate his music and allow his work to live on.
